Winter is coming

Published by Safety Net Team

When driving in winter, check vehicles for defects, such as defective tyres or brakes; do your lights work correctly and is your screen wash a liquid or an ice block? An emergency kit is a good idea for longer journeys and, when traveling alone, motoring organisations are a good source of advice.

Just walking around outside can be hazardous.  Controllers of premises have a duty of care to keep entrances and exits safe (free from slip, trip, fall hazards).  A supply of grit or rock salt can be useful in icy or snowy conditions.

In severe winter conditions, when traveling is extremely hazardous, management may consider telling workers who travel a long way to stay and work from home.

If your premises is isolated, could you stay overnight if snow or severe conditions prevented a homeward journey?
